HISTORY

Lark’s mother is a prostitute in the slums of Colndor. She has no idea as to the identity of her father and believes that it would be impossible to find out, given the number of clients her mother has had. Lark spent most of her childhood trying to stay out of her mother’s way when the latter was working.

Just after Lark’s eighth birthday, her mother began prostituting Lark, enjoying the extra money that was brought in by the “special” clients sent her daughter’s way. Lark went along with this despite finding sexual intercourse quite painful, because despite everything she loves her mother dearly. Lark never made a big deal about her “special work” because she didn’t want to think about it too much, or to worry her friends.

When Lark was 12, a coworker of her mother’s who was dying gave her an old staff and a scrawny donkey named Don Quixote (who she cares about more than she usually admits). She taught herself to use the staff, though she’s more often seen wielding it as a weapon than healing anyone.

When she was almost 14, Lark first met Crow, when his father came to “visit” her mother. They became fast friends, two children of abuse who don’t like to admit that they’ve been abused. Not too long afterwards, Kooly was added to the group, a young boy who has no memories of his past and speaks in random languages. Lark gave him the name “Kooly”, since she thought he was very cool. The three of them would hang out together on the streets and soon gained quite a reputation for troublemaking.

At 15, Lark became pregnant, as her mother was no longer giving her contraceptives in order to avoid such a thing. However, upon finding out about the pregnancy, her mother gave Lark herbs which caused a miscarriage. When Kooly and Crow became aware of this they finally realized what Lark had been doing for almost eight years and they decided it was time to get her out of that life. So the two friends dragged Lark off to live with them both in Crow’s “abandoned warehouse of stolen shinies.”

However, not too long after this happened, Maire and Terrance came into town, disrupting the lives of the Colndor Trio. When she saw how much Kooly wanted to help the pair, despite Maire's negative response to any offers, Lark decided that together they could be of some aid. This effort angered Crow greatly, especially after Kooly decided to leave with the pair and escort them himself to Norey. This fighting ended up driving Lark back home to live with her mother, and back to the world of prostitution, though she had already been making secret visits home before this. Her friendship with Crow has been incredibly strained and at the moment she doesn't know if it will ever be what it was again.

While living with her mother, Lark ended up getting the opportunity to care for a neighbour's newborn baby, Rose, and thus was able to get a source of income without having to sell her own body. Lark was a little uncertain at first, but she quickly got the hang of taking care of the child and came to be very fond of Rose as well.

When Kooly suddenly went missing, Lark was very worried and knew that she had to do something to help get him back. Under Shasta's direction, both she and Crow headed to Norey, where Kooly was being held. Forced to work together, they did manage to find their friend and bring him home. Now Lark hopes that things might go back to how they used to be, or something close to it.

However, one night she was woken by the sound of a baby crying that she couldn't block out, no matter what she did. This continued for a few days. Lark at first could not understand what was going on, but the longer she thought about things, the closer she got to figuring them out. Finally she realized that the baby crying was her baby, the one she had miscarried.

For awhile, Lark was able to keep going about her daily life, helping her neighbour take care of her young daughter Rose, while also managing to see Kooly every now and then, though not as much as she used to. Then Rose and her mother moved away, to join Rose's father. While Lark was happy that the child would be living some place better than the slums of Colndor, she missed her desperately...and missed the income the job had provided. And so Lark turned once again to prostitution, although this time it was done more willingly than in the past. She also stopped taking the herbs that Fayre had recommended, to avoid being pregnant again, in hopes that maybe if she had another baby, her dead one would stop crying and she would be able to have fun taking care of a child once more.

Lark's quest to become pregnant however was not one that would be easily accomplished. Despiter her many attempts, many months later she was still not pregnant, while a decent number of other women on the journals had become pregnant, some with safely delivered children. Lark watched each of these announcements with envy, wishing that it could be her. However she kept her plans mostly to herself, besides asking advice from women (excluding Fayre) and having Lucas discover what she was up to. She tried to remain hopeful and continue working towards her goal, but after everything, Lark began to fear that it might never happen at all.

Lark's world soon however was turned upsidedown, when she received news of Lucas' death. The loss of her only friend in the world (because who knows what Crow can be considered right now?) completely devastated her and left her able to do nothing but curl up in her room and mourn. However eventually she managed to force herself to go back to work, hoping that finally she would conceive the child she so desperately wanted.

And eventually, she did. To protect the child, she left her mother's place and went to Crow's. While she was there however, Lark suffered a miscarriage which devastated her. Not knowing what else to do, she decided to take Fayre up on her offer of work in Norey and leave Colndor behind. The job she was given was taking care of Fayre's mother, Lisa, a mad noblewoman. Lark found that she quite liked her position but still she found herself thinking of the home she'd left behind quite often, as well as the children she had lost.

PERSONALITY

Lark is a very sociable girl, always happy to make a new friend. She is surprisingly open, given the life she has led. But she does have things in her life of which she is ashamed - most notably the fact that she still loves her mother - which she keeps locked away from everyone except herself (and even that is a new development).

Lark has always managed to seem younger than she is, as there is almost an innocence about her. She also is quite gullible, which has allowed many to take advantage of her. However as Lark comes to terms with the fact that she has often been abused by those closest to her, she is becoming more jaded with the world.

Even though she has always wanted to be seen as tough, a trait cultivated with pride in the slums of Colndor, Lark also has a vulnerable and fragile side of her which shows much more often than it once did.

APPEARANCE

Lark is small, standing at roughly 5’3”, and has always been slim (most likely due to undernourishment when she was a child). She tends to wear loose clothes, and keeps her pink hair short, usually at chin length. She has indigo eyes and a light tan.
